The first transcontinental railroad laid the first rails in 1865 and was an audacious and dangerous venture; finding the route, dealing with the weather, the mountains, Indian attacks, political squabbling, and the constant need for more money for the completion. The railroad changed the landscape of the nation and the landscape of the country. It is quitie a story, well told here., 4<
