Johann Conrad Hinrichs (1763-1813) became a partner in a bookstore in 1791 in Leipzig. From 1801 he worked alone. The foundation of his business were a semi-annual catalogs of new publications published since 1798. These catalogs were more complete and appeared faster than competitors' works and circulation rapidly reached 5000 copies. After Hinrichs death the company was managed by his widow and nephew. Under the name of J. C. Hinrichs'sche Buchhandlung it existed until the 20th century, specializing in theology and Oriental studies.
