One Bowra excelled as the opening batsman in the Duke of Dorset's private cricket team. In the 1920s, when Maurice Bowra visited Knole as the guest of Edward Sackville-West, he was therefore treading in the footsteps of ancestors. Providentially, on these visits, he was not asked to play cricket.
